![]() ![]() Snowman’s adventures in real time seem almost pointless to me. ![]() I loved reading about how Jimmy and Crake met, the little signs that Crake gave off as to what he might be planning and the direction his thoughts might take in the future (though Jimmy didn’t recognize these until it was too late), etc.Ĭrake is really the star of the show in this book in my mind – Jimmy simply acts as a vessel for us to learn about a character who is dead and who therefore cannot teach us about himself. I found the parts of the book describing Snowman’s journey to Paradice (the dome in the compound where Crake did his work) to be a lot less interesting than his recollections of his previous life as Jimmy. At least, he believes he’s the last human left on Earth until the end of the book. ![]() Oryx and Crake is a piece of dystopian fiction written from the point of Snowman (known as Jimmy in his former life) – the last human left on Earth. ![]() ![]() I really don’t have a negative thing to say about this story. I appreciated that Sain steered clear of too many New Orleans cliques but really bother the Cajun aspects out through her writing. Especially our Summer Children, who all have such distinct psychic gifts. All of the characters were well developed, unique, and complex. ![]() I adored the small town setting, with Sain’s writing making me feel like I was there. I honestly can’t believe this was a debut book. From the witchy vibes to the cajun reference, this supernatural mystery was phenemonal. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I was not expecting to absolutely love pretty much everything in this story. Easily one of the best books I've read this year., A razor-sharp comedy. A novel that both uplifts and entertains, and reframes the world we live in and the things we do in it.
